Chris Polk’s big day: 284 yards rushing! Second-best in Husky history, as sophomore RB Polk found holes and made Cougar tacklers miss, leading the Dawgs to a 35-28 win. Of course, ESPN’s highlights of the game only showed Locker’s stats.
Nebraska rematch: The Dawgs will play Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl, December 30 in San Diego. Nebraska was favored by 3 points when the two teams this September–and beat UW by five…touchdowns. The teams also play again next September. Oh well. It’s still a bowl!
Hawks outFox Carolina: The Panthers sure looked to have the more talented team, didn’t they? OT Jordan Gross pretty well locking down Hawks’ pass-rushing specialist Chris Clemons, RB Jonathan Stewart headed toward a 100-yard homecoming, the Seahawks down to three receivers. But the Hawks hung around, made adjustments, and got a huge pick six from Lofa Tatupu, his first interception since ’08, that changed the momentum of the game and gave the Seahawks a lead they extended for a 31-14 win. Seahawks 6-6, T1st in NFC West. Next game Sunday @ SF.
Husky hoops romps: Seems a shame that probably 10 times the people watched the Apple Cup as watched the Husky basketball team. Romar’s team is vastly superior, they blew out another opponent Saturday. Texas Tech, who beat the Huskies in overtime last year, absorbed a 29-point loss this year. The Dawgs have now scored 100 points in four games, matching their single-season record. That record is going to fall. Washington 5-2. Next game tonight vs. Portland.

Paul Wulff will be back as Cougars coach next year. The Cougars definitely showed improvement this year, and played the more talented Huskies tough Saturday. On the other hand, Wulff is 5-32 as Cougars coach! I can actually name, of the top of my head, in order, every single win of the three-year Wulff era: Washington, Portland State, SMU, Montana State, Oregon St. And I don’t even care!
Cougar fans did not distinguish themselves by pelting the field with ice balls all game. SPNW’s Noel Zanchelli interviewed a Cougar band member who got cut on the lip from one such iceball, and the poor kid now can’t play his instrument for a couple of months. “I’m almost ashamed to be a Cougar,” he said.
Have you been wondering who that hipster musician couple is in the Hyundai commercial that’s been playing on every football game? Evidently some sort of YouTube sensation called “Pomplamoose.” Not a fan.
Spokane’s Ferris High upset Skyline in the 4A state championship football game, which was idiotically scheduled at the exact same time as the Apple Cup. Other state football champs: Bellevue (3A), Tumwater (2A), Cascade Christian (1A), Colfax (2B), Lummi (1B).
SPU hoops beat Chaminade, which had beat Oklahoma in the Maui Invitational.

Husky golfer Richard Lee is in 27th place in the PGA Tour Qualifying Tourney, which ends today. The top 25 gets PGA Tour cards for next season. Lee is one stroke back of 25th place.
