Washington replaced head coach Steve Sarkisian’s old five-year deal with a new one on Friday, signing the coach through 2015.

Sarkisian, 36, receives an additional two seasons from his first deal. Sarkisian’s guaranteed compensation will be $2 million to $2.25 million this year, to $2.4 million for 2012 and to $2,550,000 in 2013. The additional years will pay Sarkisian a guaranteed $2.7 million in ’14 and $2.85 million in ’15. Here is a link to the story on the school’s Website.

Sarkisian’s deal puts him near the top of the Pac-10 in salary. USC coach Lane Kiffin reportedly receives $4 million annually. That would be tops in the conference. USC is a private institution and does not release salary numbers.

Oregon’s Chip Kelly signed a new deal last fall for six years and $20.5 million, an average of $3.4 million a season.

Cal’s Jeff Tedford made $2,305,000 in 2010.

According to the story from the school, Sarkisian has numerous merit bonuses within the contract. Those range from $25,000 for the Huskies winning seven times next year, to $50,000-$125,000 for graduation rates from 70 to above 80 percent.

More wins, more money, with rewards up to 12 wins. Better bowl, more money. Better graduation and academic progress rates, an annual NCAA measurement, more money.

Once again, the athletic department is self-sustaining. Sarkisian’s contract has no affect on teacher salaries and the like.

Washington is 12-13 in two years under Sarkisian and won the Holiday Bowl to cap last season.

  1. Slick Rick was signed for $1mm 10 years ago and destroyed the program, so I guess $2mm for a guy who has turned around a miserable mess is worth every penny!

  2. Sark, you deserve it!
You are a dawg, through and through.
Thank you for being a class act and incredible coach.
When one thinks about the few huskies that will be drafted and what you are doing with this talent, one can only imagine what will happen with the great classes you recruited. Stay at UW for a long time and you will be loved in this great city!
