Hasselbeck Turnovers Himself Out of a Job: After losing a fumble in the end zone and tossing two interceptions in the Seahawks’ 34-18 loss to the Falcons, Hass was replaced by Charlie Whitehurst. (Whose subsequent running TD inspired the Qwest crowd to chant “Charlie! Charlie! Charlie!”) After the game, Pete Carroll declined to name a starter for next week’s game. Seahawks 6-7, T1 in NFC West. Next game Sunday @ Tampa Bay.

Root For the Rams Next Week: No matter what the Seahawks do in Tampa Bay, they’ll control their own destiny if St. Louis wins at home against San Francisco next Sunday. That would set up a one-game playoff at Qwest for the NFC West title. In fact, if St. Louis wins Sunday morning, the Seahawks/Bucs game that afternoon is meaningless — win or lose, the Seahawks would still go to the playoffs with a win over the Rams.

Huskies Can’t Shoot, Still Win by 28: This scares me if I’m a fan of another Pac-10 team. The Huskies were 6-26 from three against San Francisco on Saturday night, and still won 80-52. How? A new dedication to rebounding, with Romar running Aziz N’Diaye and Matthew Bryan-Amaning into the starting lineup. Huskies 7-3. Next game Wednesday vs. Nevada.

What they’re saying…

“We’ll figure it out next week and we’ll let you know.” — Pete Carroll on the Seahawks’ quarterback job.

“Looking back, I seem to do stupid things when we’re losing.” — Matt Hasselbeck

“Listening to Seattle chant ‘Charlie, Charlie’ while Hasselbeck cringed on the sidelines broke my heart. #thetruthhurts” — @scottyweebs

“That ‘Charlie’ chant from the crowd is classic passive/aggressive Seattle for ‘F*** you Matt'” — @b_dids

“If indeed these are the final days of the Matt Hasselbeck Era, the 12th Man should be cheering what he did here, not chanting backup’s name.” — @glove20kj

“Was that Matt Ryan or Dan Marino?!” — Aaron Curry, via Twitter (Ummmmm….)
