Washington Husky senior forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning and junior guard Isaiah Thomas were each named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 20 five-man first team.
Joining them are Washington State’s Klay Thompson, USC’s Nikola Vucevic and Arizona’s Derrick Williams, who also was named Pac-10 Player of the Year this week.
On the second team are Cal’s Harper Kamp, UCLA’s Reeves Nelson and Malcolm Lee, Oregon’s Joevan Catron and Stanford’s Jeremy Green.
Bryan-Amaning, from London, England, leads the Huskies in rebounds (8.3 rpg), field goal percentage (56.4 percent) and blocks (50) and is second on the team in scoring (16.0 ppg). He ranks fourth in the conference in rebounding, sixth in scoring, second in blocks per game (1.7) and sixth in field goal percentage.
The 6-foot-9 Bryan-Amaning also is second all-time in UW shot blocking history (154) and tied a school record with seven at Arizona. He is just the second Husky to ever record 100 blocks and 100 steals in his career.
Bryan-Amaning entered the season averaging just 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in his career. He upped his averages of 8.8 points per game in 2010 by 7.2 points — among the top five jumps in scoring from last year among all Pac-10 players. He was named the Pac-10’s Most Improved player, first team all-conference and honorable mention All-Defensive this week.
Thomas, from Tacoma’s Curtis High, leads Washington with 16.3 points per game, fourth in the Pac-10 and has scored double figures in 27 of 30 games this season. He leads the conference with 5.6 assists and his total of 168 ranks as the second-most all-time by a Husky in a single season. Additionally, Thomas has an assist to turnover ratio of 1.9 (168 assists/87 turnovers), third among conference players.
Thomas was named earlier this week to the Pac-10’s All-Conference first team.
The NABC selects 245 players from 24 districts. The group’s Division I All-America teams will be announced April 2.
