A member of the University of Washington basketball team is under investigation for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl. If you recall the Duke lacrosse case, you recall the importance of maintaining adherence to the principle of “innocent until proven guilty.” On the other hand, if you recall the 2000 Huskies, you recall…yeah.

We don’t know the name of the player involved. And the only information we have on the alleged assault is what the 16-year-old told police. (Here’s a .pdf via KIRO-TV, heavily redacted and definitely R-rated.) So it seems a little early to speculate.

What they’re saying…

“The department of intercollegiate athletics has learned of a police investigation based on allegations surrounding a current UW student-athlete. At this time, the university does not have comment on the matter.” — University of Washington
