In the most important game of the season so far, all the Huskies did was break the school record for points in a Pac-10 game. What I noticed most was that Isaiah Thomas hardly drove to the basket at all — I counted just one drive and shot before the game got silly and I started fast-forwarding so I could finish this and watch the new Archer. The Dawgs started by getting the ball inside, with N’Diaye and MBA combining for 5 of the Dawgs’ first 6 field goals, then finished Cal off from outside, hitting 17 three-pointers. Washington 16-7 (7-4), 3rd place in Pac-10, 1.5 GB. Next game Saturday vs. Stanford.

If you want to make Edgar Martinez’ Hall of Fame induction, you’d better hustle. Saturday, Martinez will be inducted into the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame in La Romana in the Dominican Republic. (I may, to honor my own people, open the Norwegian-American Baseball Hall of Fame…wouldn’t need much room since John Olerud is the only conceivable inductee.)
The Sounders 2011 schedule is finally out. Their first game is March 15 at home vs. L.A. Galaxy. The most notable dates are May 14, when Portland comes to town, and June 11, when Vancouver comes. Not to be missed.
The Sounders lost 3-0 to the Columbus Crew in an exhibition game.
Former Sonic Ray Allen became the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers. He now has 2,562 treys, 869 of which came as a member of the Sonics, including the all-time career-high for a season (269, in 2005-06).
No Washington players made the McDonald’s All-American Team [pdf]. Garfield’s Tony Wroten was considered a decent bet to make the team, but only one West Coast player did — Kyle Wiltjer, a 6-10 forward from Jesuit High in the Portland area.
The Mariners signed Gabriel Guerrero, Vladimir’s 17-year-old nephew, to a free agent contract worth $400,000. The younger Guerrero is big like his uncle, which is a good sign.
The M’s also signed veteran reliever Manny Delcarmen to a minor league deal. The M’s have so many relievers in camp, they may need to let opposing teams have six outs an inning just so everyone can get work in. Delcarmen is a hard thrower, but suffers from location issues.
In the other Pac-10 hoops games, Wazzu lost at home to Stanford, UCLA beat Oregon, and USC beat Oregon State.

Soccer/football never ceases to baffle me.
No worse than having an All-Star Game determine who gets the seventh game in the World Series or the NHL’s points system regarding overtime wins and losses.
Fortunately, this one doesn’t count in MLS (although it had to leave an impression elsewhere), but I’m a little concerned over those six goals allowed. Some of those Santos goals came off total defensive breakdowns in front of the Seattle goal. That is not a good thing. The competition will get easier once MLS gets going, but the Sounders HAVE to tighten it up.
