The Seahawks added offensive tackle Alex Barron to the 90-man roster Tuesday, another indication that the club is concerned about the returns from injury of tackles Russell Okung and James Carpenter.
Barron was the only longtime NFL veteran invited to the past weekend’s tryout camp reserved primarily for rookies. Barron spent 2011 on injured reserve with a knee problem.
He was the 19th overall selection in the 2005 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams, starting 74 of 76 games at right and left tackle. He spent the 2010 season in Dallas, playing in 11 games with one start and moved on to New Orleans last season.
His one start in Dallas had a very bad outcome. Barron was flagged for holding three times, including on what looked like a game-winning touchdown pass by Tony Romo.
Carpenter’s rookie season ended after nine games — eight starts at right tackle, one at left guard — when he tore the ACL in his left knee during practice. His rehab from surgery has left questions about his readiness to start the season.
Barron was added to the roster along with three rookie free agents. Tight end Cooper Helfet, cornerback Donny Lisowski and tackle Andrew Mitchell all received contracts after trying out last weekend.
The club released cornerback London Durham, linebacker Adrian Moten, tackle Jon Opperud and guard/center Brent Osborne.

Might as start signing as many o-liners as possible in advance of the usual in-season injuries the Hawks always have there. Barron will be starting by November.
