After blowing a chance for their first five-game winning streak in more than a year, the Mariners will close out their three-game set with the Texas Rangers in a Wednesday matinee at Safeco Field. Kevin Millwood, coming off a two-hit, complete-game shutout, gets the call for Seattle.
The Rangers intended to start Neftali Feliz in this game, but placed the converted reliever on the 15-day disabled list Monday after they diagnosed elbow inflamation. Maybe the Mariners caught a break: Feliz is 3-0 against Seattle and has not allowed an earned run in 23.0 innings.
Scott Feldman, 5-3 lifetime against Seattle, will work in Feliz’s place. A closer look at Wednesday’s probables:
MARINERS: RHP Kevin Millwood (2-4, 4.17 ERA, 1.36 WHIP)
In his 16th major league season and first with the Mariners, Millwood is making his ninth start and second against the Rangers, the team Millwood played for in 2011. Millwood had a no-decision against Texas April 11. He is coming off a complete-game, two-hit shutout of Colorado May 18.
A native of Gastonia, NC., the 6-4, 230-pound Millwood was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the 1993 amateur draft.
Millwood made his major league debut July 14, 1997, collecting a win in relief for the Braves against Philadelphia. During his career, Millwood pitched for the Braves (1997-02), Philadelphia (2003-04), Cleveland (2005), Texas (2006-09), Baltimore (2010) and Colorado (2011) before joining the Mariners.
Millwood twice won 18 games in a season, going 18-7 for the 1999 Braves and 18-8 for the 2002 Braves. Millwood led the National League in starts with 35 in 2000, led the NL in shutouts in 2003 with three, led the American League in ERA in 2005 at 2.86, and the AL in losses in 2010 with 16.
Millwood represented Atlanta in the 1999 All-Star Game.
During his American League career, Millwood made 24 starts against the Mariners, posting an 8-13 record with a 4.91 ERA.
Millwood signed with the Mariners Jan. 24 as a free agent, and earned the fifth spot in the rotation with a strong performance during spring training.
Millwood has a career record of 165-144, 4.11 ERA.

RANGERS: RHP Scott Feldman (0-1, 3.00 ERA, 1;26 WHIP)
The 29-year-old Feldman, in his eighth major league season, all with the Texas Rangers, will be making his third start and first against the Mariners. Feldman worked one inning in an 11-5 Texas win over Seattle April 9.
A native of Burlingame, CA., the 29-year-old Feldman was selected by the Texas Rangers in the the 30th round of the 2003 amateur draft. Prior to his selection, Feldman pitched for the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, CA.
Feldman pitched in the Texas system until Aug. 31, 2005, when he made his major league debut in a 9-2 Texas win over the Chicago White Sox. Feldman, who did not factor in the decision, did not allow a hit and struck out two in the only inning he worked.
Feldman served primarily as a reliever in 2006-07, then made 25 starts (28 appearances) in 2008, going 6-8, 5.29. He produced, by far, his best season in 2009 when he won 17 games, against eight losses, recording a 4.08 ERA in 189.2 innings.
Feldman made 22 more starts in 2010, but finished 7-11, 5.48. Since, he has worked mostly in relief. In 2010, he appeared in 11 games and finished 2-1, 3.94.
- 2012: Seven games and a couple of spot starts. He did not go beyond 4.2 innings in either start. He lost his last to the Kansas City Royals.

- April 24: Catcher Miguel Olivo matched the franchise record when he was charged with three passed balls in a 7-4 win at Detroit. Jerry Narron let three balls get by him Oct. 4, 1980, and Jeff Clement did likewise Aug. 10, 2008 (Clement was catching knuckleballer R.A. Dickey).
- April 27: Michael Saunders joined Donnie Scott (April 29, 1985) and Jimmy Presley (April 8, 1986) as the only Mariners to hit two home runs in a game in the ninth inning or later (solo homer in the 9th, grand slam in the 10th).
