After Brandon League blew his fourth game of the season Friday night (five blown saves in all of 2011), handing the L.A. Angels a 6-4 victory, manager Eric Wedge said he has no immediate plans to change closers.
“You just can’t make a move without having somebody else to take on that role,” said Wedge. “Brandon League’s our closer. We’ve got to get him going.”
To get the Mariners going following back-to-back losses, Wedge will send ace Felix Hernandez to the mound Saturday. Hernandez will be in pursuit of his fifth win. He’ll oppose RHP Jerome Williams, who is 2-0, 3.00 in his career against Seattle. A closer look at the probables:
MARINERS: RHP Felix Hernandez (4-3, 2.80 ERA, 1.17 WHIP)
The 25-year-old Hernandez, in his eighth major league season, all with the Mariners, will be making his 11th start and first against the Angels. Hernandez is coming off a 6-1 dazzler over the Texas Rangers in which he allowed one earned run in 8.0 innings.
A native of Valencia, VZ., the 6-3, 230-pound Hernandez was signed as a non-drafted free agent July 4, 2002 by Seattle scout Bob Engle.
He made his major league debut Aug. 4, 2005, absorbing a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers, in a game in which Hernandez allowed one earned run and fanned four. Hernandez is a two-time American League All-Star (2009, 2011) and won the AL Cy Young award in 2010, when he went 13-12 with a 2.27 ERA.
Hernandez has worked into the eighth inning in five of his 10 starts and into the seventh in two other starts. Hernandez has a career mark of 89-70, 3.22 ERA, and a career batting average against of .238.

ANGELS: RHP Jerome Williams (4-2, 3.74 ERA, 1.32 WHIP)
The 30-year-old Williams, in his seventh major league season, second with the Angels, will be making his eighth start and first against the Mariners.
A native of Honolulu, the 6-3, 240-pound Williams was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round (39th pick) of the 1999 amateur draft.
Williams pitched in the San Francisco minor league system until April 26, 2003, when he made his major league debut against the Philadelphia Phillies. Williams sustained a 10-2 loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits over 4.0 innings.
Williams pitched for San Francisco from 2003-05, winning a high of 10 games in 2004. The Giants traded him, along with former Mariner David Aardsma, to the Chicago Cubs May 28, 2005, for LaTroy Hawkins and cash.
Williams spent two years with the Cubs (2005-06), working largely in relief, was released, claimed by Oakland, released, and signed by the Washington Nationals Jan. 12, 2007. Williams went 0-5 that year, had cups of coffee with Minnesota and the Dodgers and signed with the Angels as a free agent June 16, 2011.
Williams hasnt been a full-time starter since 2005, but has moved into the Angels rotation this season.
