The Mariners (23-30) take their offensive juggernaut (31 runs past two games) to the Windy City for a three-game series with the White Sox, who swept Seattle at Safeco Field in April. In the second game of that series (April 21), Philip Humber threw a perfect game at the Mariners, who Wednesday became the first team since 1880 to score 20 runs in a game and get perfect-oed in the same season.
The Mariners are not scheduled to see Humber during this series, but will look at Jake Peavy Friday, who is 5-1 lifetime against them. Peavy will oppose Felix Hernandez, who has dropped three of his past four starts. A closer look at the probables:
MARINERS: RHP Felix Hernandez (4-4, 3.24 ERA, 1.22 WHIP)
The 25-year-old Hernandez, in his eighth major league season, all with the Mariners, will be making his 12th start and first against the White Sox. Hernandez is coming off a 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels at Safeco Field in which he failed to get into the seventh inning.
A native of Valencia, VZ., the 6-3, 230-pound Hernandez was signed as a non-drafted free agent July 4, 2002 by Seattle scout Bob Engle.
He made his major league debut Aug. 4, 2005, absorbing a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers, in a game in which Hernandez allowed one earned run and fanned four. Hernandez is a two-time American League All-Star (2009, 2011) and won the AL Cy Young award in 2010, when he went 13-12 with a 2.27 ERA.
Hernandez has worked into the eighth inning in five of his 11 starts and into the seventh in two other starts. Hernandez has a career mark of 89-71, 3.24 ERA, and a career batting average against of .238.

WHITE SOX: RHP Jake Peavy (6-1, 3.07 ERA, 0.92 WHIP)
The 30-year-old Peavy, in his 11th major league season, and fourth with the White Sox, will be making his 11th start and first against the Mariners. Peavy is coming off a 14-7 win over the Cleveland Indians.
A native of Mobile, AL., the 6-1, 195-pound Peavy was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 15th round of the 1999 amateur draft.
Peavy pitched in the San Diego system until June 22, 2002, when he made his major league debut at Qualcomm Stadium, losing 1-0 to Ted Lilly and the New York Yankees. Peavy allowed one run on three hits in 6.1 innings.
Peavy went 6-7 in 2002 and remained with San Diego through part of 2009. He reached double figures in victories six times in eight years, recording a high of 19 in 2007.
He made the National League All Star team in 2005 and 2007, won the NLs Cy Young Award in 2007, led the league in ERA in 2004 (2.27) and 2007 (2.54), in wins (19) in 2007, in strikeouts in 2005 (216) and 2007 (240) and in WHIP in 2007 (1.061).
Peavy enjoyed his best season in 2007, winning the National League Triple Crown of pitching with 19 wins, 240 strikeouts and a 2.54 ERA.
In 2009, after twice nixing a trade to the White Sox, Peavy finally agreed. The trading deadline deal sent him to the White Sox for Clayton Rickhard Aaron Poreda, Adam Russell and Dexter Carter.
Since joining the White Sox, Peavy has gone 23-14, 4.17 (he had a 3.29 ERA with the Padres).
For his career, Peavy is 115-82, 3.45 ERA.
- 2012: Peavy is en route to his best season since 2007. He pitched into the seventh inning in half of his starts and his only defeat was a complete-game 1-0 setback. He threw a 4-0 shutout at Oakland April 23, and has been shelled twice, including May 15 when Detroit got to him for six earned runs.

- April 24: Catcher Miguel Olivo matched the franchise record when he was charged with three passed balls in a 7-4 win at Detroit. Jerry Narron let three balls get by him Oct. 4, 1980, and Jeff Clement did likewise Aug. 10, 2008 (Clement was catching knuckleballer R.A. Dickey).
- April 27: Michael Saunders joined Donnie Scott (April 29, 1985) and Jimmy Presley (April 8, 1986) as the only Mariners to hit two home runs in a game in the ninth inning or later (solo homer in the 9th, grand slam in the 10th).
- April 30: When both Miguel Olivo and Jesus Montero homered, it marked the first time in franchise history that two players had homered in the same game as a catcher.

- May 8: Kevin Millwood’s 2-0 shutout marked his first in nearly nine years. He did not surrender his first hit until there were two outs in the sixth. Millwood’s gem marked only the fourth time in 1,440 games at Coors Field that an opposing pitcher held the Rockies to two hits or less while shutting them out. Millwood’s complete game also was the first by a Mariner in 2012.
- May 27: The pinch-hit grand slam allowed by Felix Hernandez to Alberto Callaspo marked just the sixth against the Mariners in 35 years, and the first since May 6, 1988 when Pat Sheridan of Detroit hit one off Mike Jackson.
- May 30: Mariners defeated Texas 21-8, just the third time in franchise history they have scored 20 or more runs in a game. The Mariners, with 20 hits, became the first team since 1880 to score in runs in a game in the same season in it also go perfect-oed.
