Golden Tate’s Diet: Not Recommended
So. Golden Tate. Supposedly the steal of the draft, but he’s looked a little lost, hasn’t he? Josh Wilson told reporters yesterday that he “pretty much owns him.” If Josh Wilson owns you, well…And I’m beginning to wonder a bit about Tate’s diet. Via Tate’s Twitter account:
Saturday, 8:25 p.m.: “I want some coldstone.”
Sunday, 2:40 p.m.: “Well top pot is mighty crowded this morning” (Oh, the irony)
Sunday, 11:08 p.m.: “I think I’m going to try eating pizza with a fork and knife today.”
Monday, 7:48 p.m.: “Forearms are sore from beating this cake! This one better be good!”
Then this morning, Danny O’Neil’s column about Tate leads with a story of him burning his hand when he squirted Hot Pocket on himself. Hey, a guy’s gotta keep his calorie count up…but ice cream, donuts, pizza, hot pockets and cake? I’d be worried if a comic book store guy had that diet, let alone a pro athlete.
Coach Sark announces his starters [team release]
If there was a surprise, it’s that D’Andre Goodwin won a starting spot after pretty much disappearing last year. But he had the proverbial “good camp.” Happy to see that former walk-on Greg Christine won a starting job. Coach Sark said he thought Christine’s career was done when he broke his leg last year in the Arizona game.
Seahawks cut 6 [team release]
The biggest name cut was former CFL star Ricky Foley, so, yeah, no surprises. Saturday is the big cut down day, when the final 53-man roster is named.
Angels 5, Mariners 3 [box/highlights]
David Pauley was cruising until the 6th, when he allowed three homers. A belated M’s rally in the 9th got cut short by an ump’s bad call. On the bright side, Josh Wilson turned an amazing double play. M’s 51-80, 23 gb. Next game today vs. Angels (King Felix Day!)

Hawks’ free agent OL signee Chester Pitts will likely practice today. He’d probably be starting for Okung if he weren’t recovering from microfracture surgery. Pitts will dress for the exhibition finale in Oakland.
Carroll still hasn’t ruled out Okung for the opener. He’s “optimistic” about it. As if there’s anything Carroll isn’t optimistic about.

It’s the first-ever Mariners Trivia Night at Safeco tonight. You’ve got until 9 a.m. to get your team together for the event, which is before the game in the M’s large conference room inside Safeco. The winning team gets “Mariners Genius” tees and upgrades to the front row.
Bob Bradley signed to be the U.S. National Team coach through 2014, which does not bode well for former USL Sounder Brian Ching.
