- Good Week — UW receiver D’Andre Goodwin snagged six passes for 126 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown pass from Jake Locker, in Washington’s 16-13 win over California. His performance went a long way towards keeping the Huskies in the hunt for a bowl bid.
- Bad Week — Lorenzo Romar’s UW basketball team had an opportunity to beat two nationally ranked teams — Kentucky and Michigan State — in the Maui Classic, but ultimately couldn’t hang with either. UW has not beaten a ranked opponent in a preseason tournament since Nate Robinson led the Huskies to a victory over Alabama in the 2004 Great Alaska Shootout.
- Sunday, Nov. 28 — The Kansas City Chiefs rush for 270 yards against the Seahawks in a 42-24 exercise in dominance at Qwest Field. If the Seahawks hadn’t made 260 player transactons under Pete Carroll, it might have been 80-24.
- Saturday, Nov. 27— The Huskies score their third last-play win of the season (also USC and Oregon State) when Chris Polk converts a one-yard, fourth-down play to defeat Cal 16-13 in Berkeley. Notre Dame nightmares (from 2009) returned when Jake Locker couldn’t get in the end zone twice in the final minute, but Polk’s touchdown might become a program changer. We’ll see.
- Friday, Nov. 26 — It’s not often when a Washington-bred wins a stakes race in California, but 2009 Washington Horse of the Year Reba Is Tops scored by 1 1/2 lengths in the Raise Your Skirts Stakes at Hollywood Park. Figures that the race was six furlongs. Washington-breds almost never win anywhere beyond that distance.
- Thursday, Nov. 25 — Eastern Washington, ranked No. 1 in the Football Network Subdivision poll for the first time in school history, draws a No. 5 seed in the FCS playoffs and a matchup — at home — with Southeast Missouri State on Dec. 4. The Huskies open their 2011 season against the Eagles next Sept. 3, and now you know why.
- Wednesday, Nov. 25 — The Sounders lose Sanna Nyassi (No. 2 overall pick) and Nathan Sturgis (No. 6) to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft. Sounders will suffer from the loss of Nyassi’s explosive speed and the kind of contributions he made during Seattle’s run to the U.S. Open Cup.
- Tuesday, Nov. 23 — Terrence Jones, who made an oral comittment to play for Washington in April but then reneged and went to Kentucky, helps lead the No. 8-Wildcats to a 74-67 win over the Huskies in the second round of the Maui Classic by scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high 17 rebounds. Great player, but we still think the guy’s a flake.
- Monday, Nov. 22 — Huskies parlay an avalanche of 3-pointers — a school-record tying 17 in all — into a 106-63 rout of Virginia in the first round of the Maui Classic. Huskies have never looked better during the Lorenzo Romar era, not even when they had Nate Robinson and Brandon Roy.
