Given how touted he was coming out of Ferndale High, and considering how good of a football player he became, it’s more than surprising that Jake Locker never became a first-team All-Pac-10 quarterback. To that we say, he’s still in some pretty good company. Our picks for the best UW quarterbacks who never made first-team All-Pac-10.

  Damon Huard, 1993-95: Huard left UW as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards (a mark subsequently broken by brother Brock), and had a long career as an NFL quarterback (earned Super Bowl rings in 2002 and 2004 with New England and later started for Kansas City). He never received All-Pac-10 recognition, losing to USC’s Rob Johnson in 1993, to Oregon’s Danny O’Neill in 1994 and to Arizona State’s Jake Plummer in 1995.

  Billy Joe Hobert: He led the Huskies to the program’s only modern-era perfect record — 12-0 in 1991) and a share of the national championship, but failed to make first-team All-Pac-10, losing out to California’s Mike Pawlaski.

  Brock Huard, 1996-98 Although he finished his UW career as the Huskies’ all-time leader in passing yards (6,391) and touchdown passes (53), he never made first-team All-Pac-10. First-team choices during Huard’s tenure were Jake Plummer of Arizona State (1996), Ryan Leaf of Washington State (1997) and and Cade McNown of UCLA (1998). Hard to argue with any of them.

  Chris Chandler, 1985-87: Chandler led the Huskies to three bowl games and was MVP in two of them (1985 Freedom, 1987 Independence) before launching an 18-year NFL career. He never made first-team All-Pac 10, losing twice to Oregon’s Chris Miller (1985-86) and once to UCLA’s Troy Aikman (1987).

  Mark Brunell, 1990, ’92 Brunell had a 19-5 record as UW’s starting quarterback, at one time held five Rose Bowl passing records, and threw for more than 30,000 yards in an 18-year NFL career. Despite leading the Huskies to a 10-2 record and a Rose Bowl berth in 1990, Brunell got aced out as a first-team All-Pac-10 quarterback by Oregon State’s Bill Musgrave. Two years later, despite leading the Huskies to another Rose Bowl berth, he got aced out by Washington State’s Drew Bledsoe.
