Draft day is here, and I couldn’t be more excited to see who the Seahawks are going to take. Here’s how our nation’s best mock drafters see things going as of this morning.

Consensus has come to the #1 pick, which all now agree will be Cam Newton (though I struggle to see what the difference is between Newton and Jake Locker, except that Newton played for a better team). The most terrifying scenario has Patrick Peterson, the one absolute athletic freak in the draft, going to Arizona, where he’ll torture us twice a year until 2023.

Jake Locker’s status remains all over the place. FOX Sports’ Adam Caplan still doesn’t think Locker’s a first-rounder, while Pro Football Weekly now has Locker going eighth to Tennessee.

As for the Seahawks, a couple of names we haven’t seen before: Aaron Williams, a 6-foot CB from Texas, and Danny Watkins, a guard from Baylor. Watkins is an interesting story — he’d be 26 as a rookie, because he didn’t start playing football until 2007! He was a volunteer firefighter in his home province of British Columbia (yup, he’s a Canadiatarian) in his early 20s, then played his first year of organized football at 23 at junior college.

Mariners 10, Detroit 1 [box]: The M’s got a great start from Erik Bedard, who went 7 high-pressure innings and allowed just 5 hits. The game was close — the margin being Justin Smoak’s three-run homer in the first, before the M’s blew it open in the ninth.

Why did Bedard pitch so well? He mostly abandoned his cutter and had better velocity due to an extra day’s rest, writes Shannon Drayer.

Chone Figgins is just three consecutive hits away from passing the Mendoza Line!!!

Colorado’s Brian Mullan apologized to Steve Zakuani. Some in the media characterized Mullan’s statement as an apology for his tackle. They are wrong. Read the statement, you’ll see that it’s clearly an expression of regret that Zakuani was injured. Mullan in no way implies that he regrets making the play.

The MLS was supposed to announce Mullan’s punishment today, but they just…didn’t. What kind of a league is this?

The Seahawks should take Nebraska kicker Alex Henery, writes Field Gulls’ Danny Kelly.

New UW president Michael Young calls athletics the “front porch” of a university. (If the analogy isn’t immediately clear, he means that it’s the first and maybe only thing people see.)

Husky big man recruiting target God’s Gift Achiuwa will announce his college decision today.
