The Seattle Sounders (8-5-7) started fast, blew their lead, then rebounded for a 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls (9-5-5) Sunday afternoon in Harrison, NJ.
Trailing 2-1 in the 67th minute, Fredy Montero entered the game and scored his fifth goal of the season on a cross from Brad Evans. The score was Montero’s first since a May 19 match against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Sounders took control early when Adam Johansson lofted a beautiful ball across the pitch to a streaking Alvaro Fernandez. “El Flaco” went into a sliding feet-first strike, lacing the pass into the back of the net to give Seattle a 1-0 lead.
The Red Bulls quickly responded in the 24th minute when former Sounder Sebastien LaToux scored in his New York debut on a rebound from a Kenny Cooper shot that slammed off the hands of Seattle goalkeeper Bryan Meredith.
In the 61st minute, midfielder Joel Lindpere helped New York take a 2-1 lead with a low strike from just outside the box after a late run up the right side of the pitch.
The draw kept the Sounders unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions while the Red Bulls stayed undefeated at home. The result pushed Seattle to 3-2-2 all-time in seven MLS matches against its Eastern Conference foe.

Ugh, thought we were on our way after the fast start. Not going to hate on Meredith but what is the Sounders GAA this year compared to the last three years under Keller?
