The Mariners Tuesday announced that they had acquired outfielder Scott Cousins off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. The 27-year-old Cousins split the 2012 season between AAA New Orleans and the Miami Marlins, and his addition brings to 37 the number of players currently on Seattle’s 40-man roster.
Cousins appeared in 53 games for the Marlins last year and played all three outfield positions, but didn’t hit a lick, batting just .163 with four doubles, one triple, one home run and three RBIs. From an offensive standpoint, he doesn’t figure to add much to a team that ranked 14th in batting average, 14th in on-base percentage and 14th in OPS.
With New Orleans, Cousins batted .296 (69×233) in 61 games. He also played with the Marlins in 2010 (27 games) and 2011 (48 games).
Over seven minor league seasons, Cousins has combined to bat .279 with 106 doubles, 21 triples, 62 home runs and 280 RBI.
Cousins started his professional career in 2006 with Jamestown. He reached the major leagues in 2010 with the Marlins and got in 27 games. For his 128-game major league career, Cousins is hitting .183.
Cousins was originally selected out of the University of San Francisco in the third round of the 2006 June amateur draft.

The Mets just released a real good player that is from Gonzaga. Last season wasn’t good due to nagging injuries. Might be a sleeper. I’m having a senior moment and cant come up with his name.Canadian guy.
