Only one University of Washington football player made first-team All-Pac-12, and it wasn’t Austin Seferian-Jenkins, a finalist for the Mackey Award, presented to the nation’s outstanding tight end. The first-team squad announced Monday included senior cornerback Desmond Trufant.

Oregon and Stanford placed the most players on the first team with five selections each, followed by Oregon State with four. Only one player was named on the first-team ballot of all 12 head coaches, WR Marqise Lee of USC, the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Arizona State’s Will Sutton, a redshirt junior from Corona, CA. ,who leads the Pac-12 and ranks fifth in the FBS with 1.82 tackles for loss per game (20 total), was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. Oregon’s Marcus Mariota was the Freshman Offensive Player of the Year and USC DE Leonard Williams as Freshman Defensive Player of the Year.

Stanford’s David Shaw won the league’s Coach of the Year award for the second straight year, becoming just the fourth coach in league history to win back-to-back.

Seferian-Jenkins made second-team All-Pac-12, losing out to Stanford senior Zach Ertz, also one of three finalists for the Mackey Award.

Ertz led Stanford in receiving, catching 63 passes for 818 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 68.2 yards per game. A sophomore, Seferian-Jenkins also caught 63 passes for 791 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 65.9 yards per game.

Trufant, who played in 11 of Washington’s 12 games, made 34 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, had one sack and one interception and broke up seven passes.

Washington State, which concluded its season by beating Washington in the Apple Cup last Friday, placed only one player on either the first or second All-Pac-12 team, defensive back Deone Bucannon (second team). Notably absent: linebacker Travis Long, who had 9.5 sacks. He was named to the honorable mention list.
