The Mariners begin their 2013 Cactus League spring training schedule with a three-game weekend series with the San Diego Padres Feb. 22-24 at the club’s spring home, the Peoria Sports Complex, the club announced Monday.

Seattle’s pitchers and catchers report to spring training Feb. 12 (physicals) and hold the first workout Feb. 13. Position players report Feb. 15 and the first full-squad workout is Feb. 16. Due to the World Baseball Classic, some position players may report earlier than the assigned date.

The Mariners play 20 games at Peoria Stadium, including two when the Padres are designated the home team (Feb. 23 and March 22). The Mariners and Padres will play the annual charity game Feb. 22.

This will be the earliest in club history (previous was 2/25/09) and the 34 Cactus League games will be second-most in club history (37 in 2009). Due in large part to the World Baseball Classic, the Mariners will have four off days during the spring (March 5, 11, 20 and 29).

The schedule includes three night games, beginning March 15 vs. a World Baseball Classic team from the Asia qualifier. Night games are March 19 vs. the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants and March 21 vs. the Chicago Cubs.

The Mariners play their final game in Arizona March 28 vs. the Chicago Cubs in Mesa, and cap the spring schedule March 30 with a game vs. the Colorado Rockies in Salt Lake City (Spring Mobile Park). Seattle will hold a workout March 31 at Oakland Coliseum and open the 2013 regular season Monday, April 1 against the Athletics. The 2013 home opener will be Monday, April 8 vs. the Houston Astros at Safeco Field (7:10 p.m.).

Home games, at the Peoria Sports Complex, are listed in bold face.
