ESPN’s Kenny Mayne showed up at Benaroya Hall last week to emcee the 78th annual Star of the Year event, and was wise and kind enough to sit down with Art Thiel to reminisce about the mis-spent days of his suburban Seattle youth as a newspaper delivery boy and waste-hauler.
His show on ESPN, “Kenny Mayne’s Wider World of Sports” show, is an amusing tour of the world’s lesser known competitions, like the World Wife-Carrying championships in Finland, and he contributes to “Sunday NFL Countdown” show with the “Mayne Event.”
He recently moved back to the Seattle area. He grew up in Kent, starred as quarterback at Wenatchee Valley Community College and played at Nevada-Las Vegas as the backup to future NFL star Randall Cunningham. He was KCPQ Ch. 13’s sports anchor from 1982-89 before going big time.
