The Mariners Tuesday promoted RHP Yoervis Medina from the AAA Tacoma Rainiers to replace injured RHP Stephen Pryor, whom the club placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a tear in his right latissimus dorsi muscle. Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said Medina will wear uniform No. 31 and be available for Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Medina, 24, went 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA (1 ER, 6.0 IP) in four relief appearances with the Rainiers. He walked three batters and struck out seven in 6.0 innings. The right-hander also limited opponents to a .111 (2×18) batting average and retired all eight of the right-handed batters hefaced.

In 2012, Medina went 5-for-5 with five saves and a 3.25 ERA (25 ER, 69.1 IP) in 46 games (one start) with Double-A Jackson. He made a career-high 45 relief appearances after spending the previous three seasons nearly exclusively as a starter (55G/52 GS).

The Mariners originally selected Medina as a non-drafted international free agent July 25, 2005. In eight seasons in the Mariners organization, he is 29-35 with a 3.84 ERA (212 ER, 497.0 IP) in 155 games, 64 starts.
