There’s something about the way Seattle’s Fred Couples talks, tells stories and describes things that are, well, endearing. It’s part of the charm of the O’Dea High School grad and Jefferson Park ball scrounger that has made him one of the most popular players in the history of the PGA tour.

In his induction speech at the World Golf Hall of Fame Monday in St. Augustine, FL., Couples lost his legendary course cool when it came time to fully express his appreciation for the honor.

The key moment happens near the six minute mark of this 11-minute video. We’ve all seen athletes grateful for their awards, but this was, well, unique.  See for yourself.

  1. Couples has earned this. Nice to see him recognized here as well as being open on his feelings for it.

  2. Congrats Freddie! How about winning the Boeing Tournament this summer for us?
