The Seahawks’ multiple draft additions along the defensive line have a clearer purpose, now that reserve DT Greg Scruggs is probably lost for the season after surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

The club said Thursday that Scruggs, a seventh-round draft choice who played in 11 games at end as well as tackle, had surgery performed by team physician Ed Khalfayan. The Seahawks didn’t say when or how the injury occurred, but the club began off-season workouts a week before the April 23 draft.

It’s unlikely that Scruggs will recover before the end of the regular season.

The Seahawks drafted two tackles, Jordan Hill and Jesse Williams.
