Seattle Sounders forward Eddie Johnson has been voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 12 after he tallied two goals in a 4-2 win over league-leading FC Dallas last Saturday at CenturyLink Field. Johnson’s brace helped the Sounders extend their unbeaten streak to six games.
This marks the third time since Johnson joined Sounders that he has been voted MLS Player of the Week. He previously won the honor versus the LA Galaxy in Week 22 and Chivas USA in Week 27 last season.
Johnson staked Seattle to an early lead against Dallas with his opening goal in the 30th minute. He later scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
The Sounders, who have collected six points and scored eight goals in their past two matches, are off until Sunday when they travel to Los Angeles to meet the Galaxy. The Sounders then play at Chivas USA June 1 before returning to CenturyLink Field June 8 for a Cascadia Cup match against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The thing that impresses me the most about Eddie Johnson isn’t his physical or skill set (formidable as it is). It’s been his hustle. He went all out from whistle to whistle. Even with a 2 goal lead in stoppage, you could see him coming back on D. You don’t see that from strikers much. For a guy who came into the Sounders with some question marks, he has answered them all, and then some. With that kind of effort he has the ability to make real impact on the USMNT and could be one of the very best American soccer players. Greta renaissance for him. Great comeback story. Cheers, Eddie!
