Shuffled off a year ago to Buffalo, Tarvaris Jackson has returned to the Seahawks to back up at quarterback, the club said Thursday night. He will compete with sixth-year veteran Brady Quinn, who was signed during the free agency period, but now faces competition from a player known and respected in Renton.
“I think it’s a great boost for us in a competitive sense,” said coach Pete Carroll, who spoke with the media at the end of a three-day minicamp. “We thought of Tarvaris as a tremendously tough football player and competitive kid that battled for us.

“We’re a little better than we were in those days so we bring him back with the thought that he’ll make this a very competitive situation.”
Carroll gave no indication that Quinn was going to be cut, praising his work to date even though most observers at practice are yet to be impressed.
“Brady has done a fine job and it just makes us that much stronger,” he said. “We’re just seizing the opportunity that one of our guys is out there. T-Jack has a strong arm, he understands the system, and he’s tough as nails.”
“Brady, in the situation he’s in, has been next to perfect. He has worked like crazy; he knows exactly what we’re asking of him. He’s a tremendous guy in the meeting rooms, on the practice field supporting Russell’s efforts to figure it out, and he’s competed really well.”
A seventh-year player, Jackson’s only season as a starter was 2011 in Seattle, a post-lockout season in which he had career highs with 14 touchdowns, 271 completions and 3,091 yards.
But in 2012, he was beat out in preseason by draftee Russell Wilson and free agent signee Matt Flynn. He was traded to Buffalo for a seventh-round draft pick, but as the third-string quarterback, never played a down. Re re-signed in February, but was released Monday by the Bills.
Jackson, 30, was a second-round pick in 2006 by Minnesota from Alabama State.
Six Seahawks make NFL Network’s top 100
RB Marshawn Lynch was No. 24 in the list of the NFL Network’s top 100 players of 2013, a device by the house organ to make sure you knew the NFL was a 12-month season.
Lynch moved up from 94 a year ago. His teammates on the list included CB Richard Sherman (50), QB Russell Wilson (51), FS Earl Thomas (66), WR Percy Harvin (90) and C Max Unger (95).

Well, if Wilson goes down or gets hit with the sophomore jinx I feel better with TJack taking snaps than Brady Quinn. At least TJack knows the system and players. Weird the Bills are getting rid of their QBs.
If Wilson gets hurt we are screwed.
This is a really good development. Jackson played well for the Seahawks despite playing with injuries. I don’t think most fans appreciated him enough, maybe because they were missing Hasselbeck. Now we get another chance.
