Washington’s premier wide receiver, junior Kasen Williams, found himself the object of a catch — he was pulled over May 26 at Lake Chelan and cited for being under 21 and having consumed alcohol.
Williams, 20, was administered two breathalyzer tests by the Washington State Patrol, during which he blew .059 and .056 The threshold for DUI in the state is .08.
His sentence was deferred for 24 months on the misdemeanor, which required a $695.50 fine that he paid.
Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian released a statement Tuesday through the school about the episode.
“We are aware of an incident involving Kasen Williams in Chelan County on May 26,” the statement read. “As a matter of policy, any disciplinary measures taken as a result of this incident will remain internal to the team.”
Williams, of Skyline High in Sammamish, caught 77 passes for 878 yards and six touchdowns.
Teammate Austin Seferian-Jenkins had a more serious charge of drunken driving in a March 9 episode in Ravenna. He has pleaded not guilty.
But the felony charge was a reason the team suspended him indefinitely, which cost him spring ball and threatens to have him sit out of one or more games this season, which begins Aug. 31 against Boise State in the re-opener of Husky Stadium.
