Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been suspended for the University of Washington’s season opener with No. 19 Boise State Saturday night, according to multiple reports, A preseason All-America tight end, Seferian-Jenkins will serve a one-game suspension after pleading guilty to a drunk-driving charge in July.
Washington’s second-leading receiver in 2012, Seferian-Jenkins was sentenced to 364 days in jail, 363 of which were suspended. Seferian-Jenkins served one day in jail and paid a $695 fine.
The Seattle Times reported coach Steve Sarkisian suspended Seferrian-Jenkins for two games, but reduced the penalty to one after the tight end fulfilled Sarkisian’s disciplinary requirements.
Seferian-Jenkins also broke his right pinky finger during training camp Aug. 12, and had surgery three days later to insert a pin. Sarkisian said Monday at a press conference that Sarkisian had not been medically cleared to play. But a source told the Times he now was cleared to play, and his absence Saturday was due to a suspension.
