Boosted by Saturday’s 34-24 road win against Illinois, the Huskies Sunday rose two spots to No. 17 in the Associated Press college football poll and three spots to No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
UW is listed in the AP Top 25 for the third consecutive week, an accomplishment foreign to the program since 2003. It is the highest the Huskies have climbed in either poll since UW coach Steve Sarkisian was hired in 2009.
The season-opening win against Boise State was likely made more impressive in the eyes of voters after the Broncos convincingly beat Air Force 41-20 Friday night on ESPN. Joining the Huskies in the AP Top 25 are four other Pac-12 schools: Oregon (No. 2), Stanford (No. 5), UCLA (No. 13) and Arizona State (No. 23), who Saturday night was unranked before a shocking 32-30 win over Wisconsin in Tempe, AZ.
UW (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12) finishes its non-conference schedule against Idaho State noon Saturday at Husky Stadium.
