The NFL Wednesday selected Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers in Seattle’s 29-3 victory. Sherman prevented a 49ers touchdown with an interception, recorded two tackles and delivered a lock-down effort against WR Anquan Boldin, holding him to one catch a week after Boldin caught 13 for 208 in a win over the Green Bay Packers.
A first-team All-Pro in 2012, Sherman also won the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award for Week 10 last season when he had an end zone interception, a sack and a forced fumble in a 28-7 victory over the New York Jets. Sherman is the only player to win two weekly awards in that span.
Sherman has an interception in five consecutive home games. In those five, Sherman has six picks, two touchdowns (interception return, blocked field goal return) and a fumble recovery.
Sherman joins Robert Blackmon and Ken Lucas as the only Seahawks cornerbacks to win the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award twice.
Bears cornerback Tim Jennings, Falcons defensive end Osi Umenyiora and Vikings defensive end Brian Robison were the other nominees recognized by the NFL for their performances in Week 2.

Richly deserved. He stuck to the players he was covering like glue. And with Gore unable to establish the run that made for a frustrating day for the 49ers. No complaints!
