Pete Carroll said he was “really excited” Friday to disclose that that DE Chris Clemons finally will play Sunday against Jacksonville, nine months after he was lost to knee surgery in the playoff game in Washington D.C. He was less thrilled to say that RT Russell Okung will be out six to eight weeks with a torn ligament in a big toe.

But at least it won’t cost Okung the season, which was among the possibilities until Okung received a second medical opinion about the injury that pulled him from the 49ers game Sunday in the first quarter.

“Russell is excited about the fact that he comes back this season,” Carroll said. “We’ll just ride it out and see what happens.”

They will ride it out with Paul McQuistan moving over from left guard, with James Carpenter elevated to full-time at guard.

“It’s very fortunate we have someone of Paul’s experience,” Carroll said. “We didn’t have time to prepare him last week. Now that he has game plan. That will help us.”

Of Carpenter, who wasn’t in condition to go a full game, Carroll said,  “It was a process to get him back to full go, and he’s ready.”

Also ready is Brandon Browner, who missed the 49ers game with sore hamstring. OLs Breno Giacomini (knee) and and J.R. Sweezy (back) were listed as probable after being limited in practice.

“It means the world for him to come back,” Carroll said of Clemons, who had surgery to repair a torn ACL. “I’m really fired up for him to join us. He’s in as good a shape as anybody on this team to carry the load.”

NOTES — Linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. was scheduled to return Friday night to team headquarters after the death of his father, famed boxer Ken Norton Sr. “It was an enormous shock wave that went through his family,” Carroll said. “We’ll see how he is tonight.” . . . RB Spencer Ware is out with a sprained ankle, meaning rookie RB Christine Michael likely will get his first NFL action . . . The Seahawks are listed as 20-point favorites Sunday.

  1. At least he isn’t going on IR. It’s possibly the club could be fully healthy going into the playoffs.
