University of Washington freshman Nigel Williams-Goss was named to the 2014 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year watch list. Of the 46 candidates provided by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tuesday, Williams-Goss is one of four freshmen and one of seven Pac-12 players nominated.

Williams-Goss, a product of Nevada’s Findlay Prep, was a 2013 McDonald’s All-America selection, a Parade All-American, a MaxPreps first team All-American and was ranked 19th overall in ESPN’s top 100 before joining the Huskies. He is the fifth Husky signee to play in the McDonald’s game, where he won the 3-point shooting contest.

As the first four-year player for national powerhouse Findlay Prep, Williams-Goss helped his team to national championships as a junior and a freshman while leading it to a 124-8 record during his four years. He also averaged 7.9 points, a team-best 2.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds as a member of the U.S. U-19 team that won the gold medal at the FIBA World Championships in July.

Williams-Goss is joined by Florida’s Kasey Hill, Kentucky’s Andrew Harrison, and Syracuse’s Tyler Ennis as the only freshmen on this year’s list. Other Pac-12 candidates include T.J. McConnell (Arizona), Jahii Carson (Arizona State), Justin Cobbs (California), Kyle Anderson (UCLA), Spencer Dinwiddie (Colorado), and Dominic Artis (Oregon).

The watch-list candidates will be narrowed to 20 in early February, then to final five by early March. The winner will be announced on Championship Monday in Dallas.

The Huskies host Central Washington in an exhibition game Wednesday, Nov. 6 and then play Seattle University Nov. 10.

  1. Nice to see the Huskies represent in the McDonald’s game. Can’t wait to see Willaims-Goss and Kemp Jr. play together.
