Former Washington State football player Steve Gleason will be the subject of an hour-long documentary Tuesday on “A Football Life,” a weekly program on the NFL Network. The show airs at 6 p.m. At 7, a half-hour program, “A Football Life: Backstory,” provides more information about Gleason’s inspiring life.
Gleason, a Spokane native, was an uncommonly popular player with the Cougars and the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. He was diagnosed with ALS – “Lou Gehrig’s disease” – an incurable neurological disease.
“My life is not easy,” Gleason has said, “but it’s awesome.”
Gleason’s climb of a mountain in Peru is featured. Interviewer subjects include former Saints teammates Drew Brees and Scott Fujita and members of Gleason’s immediate family: Mother Gail (an academic advisor in the WSU athletic department), father Mike and younger brother Kyle.
