Keith Price always expects to start every game. So it was little surprise Tuesday when the University of Washington quarterback told reporters he anticipates playing in the Apple Cup Friday against Washington State.

“You just feel useless when you’re on the sideline. There’s nothing you can really do, especially when you’re losing,” Price said. “It’s all good when you’re winning, but when you’re losing, it’s no fun being on the sideline.”

Price might have to be on the sideline if the throwing shoulder injured Nov. 15 against UCLA doesn’t heal soon. The redshirt senior took roughly half of the snaps with the first-team offense Tuesday, splitting reps with backup Cyler Miles.

“I’ve definitely been getting better,” Price said. “I’ve been doing a little bit more each day. It’s just a day-to-day process. It was a serious injury. Any type of injury to anything on your throwing arm is going to be huge. I’m just taking care of it as best as I can.”

Coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t address reporters after Tuesday morning’s practice. Quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo did, though he offered little in the way of clarity about the timeline for Price’s return.

It appears the coaching staff’s decision to start Price or Miles will be made in the hours leading up to the game.

“It would be special for him to be able to play this game, so we’re hopeful,” Tuiasosopo said. “We’re going to take it one day at a time. It would be fun to see him go out the way he should.”
