Shawn Kemp Jr. will continue to play for the Washington Huskies despite a diagnosis of Graves’ disease, the team said in a news release Tuesday afternoon. The autoimmune disease affects the thyroid. A description can be found here from the Mayo Clinic.
The junior forward missed the majority of preseason training due to the illness. He started to develop symptoms in late July before being officially diagnosed in early September.
Medical staff treating Kemp do not expect the disease to continue to affect his performance once his treatment plan, which began following his diagnosis, is in full effect.
In 60 career games, including 19 starts, Kemp averages 3.9 career points and 1.9 rebounds.
