Washington junior Austin Seferian-Jenkins has won the 2013 Mackey Award, presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate tight end. Seferian-Jenkins receives the award Thursday in Orlando, FL., during the Home Depot College Football Awards show, televised live on ESPNU at 3 p.m., PT, and on ESPN at 4 p.m., PT.
A junior from Fox Island, WA., Seferian-Jenkins is the first Husky to claim the Mackey Award, first presented in 2000. He’s also the first Husky to win a national award since Steve Emtman won both the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award following the 1991 season.
The only other Husky to win one of college football’s major awards was Greg Lewis, winner of the Doak Walker Award in 1990. That goes to the nation’s best running back. Bishop Sankey is a finalist for this year’s award, the winner of which will be revealed during the show.
Seferian-Jenkins caught 33 passes for 413 yards and led Washington with seven receiving touchdowns this season.
Seferian-Jenkins holds all season and career records for receptions, yards and touchdowns by a tight end. He beat out Eric Ebron of North Carolina and Nick O’Leary of Florida State for the Mackey Award.

And he had a down year (for him) as well. Plus being suspended from the team. He’s still the go to guy among the receivers.
