The Washington Huskies conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule with a pair this weekend, starting with their first meeting with Mississippi Valley State of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Friday night. After hosting the University of Hartford Sunday, the Huskies will begin preparations for the Pac-12 opener, at Arizona State Jan. 2.

Mississippi Valley has faced three major opponents, losing to Oklahoma State (117-62), Texas A&M (91-67) and Georgia Tech (76-59). The Delta Devils (Itta Bena, MS.), who average 77.2 per game and allow 87.4, have an RPI of 194 compared to Washington’s 170. However, as recently as Dec. 15, the Huskies had an RPI of 198.

The Delta Devils feature three double-figure scorers in Anthony McDonald (15.3), DeAngelo Priar (12.6) and James Currington (10.1). Currington is also Misssissippi Valley’s leading rebounder at 5.9 per game.

The Delta Devils are coming off an 86-64 loss to Northwestern and will be playing two games in the state. They meet Washington State in Pullman Sunday.

Washington needs to win both non-conference games this weekend to avoid becoming the first Romar club to lose six times before the start of the conference schedule. The Huskies have already dropped five for the third consecutive season.

SERIES: First meeting.
