Sounders midfielder Brad Evans and defender DeAndre Yedlin have been summoned to the U.S. National Team for its pre-World Cup camp scheduled Jan. 6-Feb. 1. Also called was former Sounders forward Eddie Johnson, now with D.C. United. Designated player Clint Dempsey, on loan for two months to Fulham in the EPL, was not called.
The 26-member USMNT will train at the StubHuc Center in Carson, CA., for a week before deploying to Sao Paulo, Brazil for additional training Jan. 13-25.
The camp culminates with a friendly at StubHub Center against the Korea Republic Feb. 1. The match, scheduled for 2 p.m., will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
Evans, 28, has 16 caps and one goal for the USA. He earned a career-high 10 caps and nine starts in 2013, and scored the latest game-winner in USMNT qualifying history at Jamaica June 7.
The 20-year-old Yedlin, from Seattle’s O’Dea High School, gets his first call-up to the senior team. He started three matches for the U.S. in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, falling to Spain and Ghana while earning a draw against France.

Nice to see Yedlin get recognized but part of me goes “Uh oh…Team USA now knows how good he is. He’s gonna get a ton of call ups now.”
I agree and I’m thinking the same thing about Lamar Neagle, who had a nice 2013 season. Bit of a late bloomer, but so was Evans in some ways.
