After wins in three of their first four Pac-12 games, the Washington Huskies came crashing back to reality with an 82-56 defeat at the hands of of the Cal Bears Wednesday night. The Huskies (11-7, 3-2) beat the Bears in four of the past five meetings, including the past two in Berkeley, but this one was over in the first five minutes.
Cal (13-4, 4-0) off to its best start in 10 years, held UW to 24 percent shooting in the first half, which the Bears led 30-17. The Bears blocked seven shots and out-rebounded the Huskies 44-33. The final margin was Cal’s biggest over Washington in 17 years.
After 31 points against Colorado, Washington senior C.J. Wilcox was held in check by Justin Cobbs and finished with 18 points.

Just when I thought the team was turning a corner based on their last two games they lay this goose egg. If anything, it showed how they live and die on their defense. Not to take anything away from Cal though. I was hoping with Allen Crabbe gone they’d still be adjusting to his absence but that obviously isn’t the case. Hopefully the Dawgs can bounce back against Stanford.
