WR Percy Harvin has been ruled out of Sunday’s NFC Championship game because his concussion lingers. The good news for the Seahawks from the medical department is that LB K.J. Wright will play, six weeks after breaking a bone in his right foot that required surgical repair.

“Percy will not make it through the doctors’ protocol and will not be able to go,” coach Pete Carroll said after practice Friday. After not being allowed to practice Wednesday or Thursday, the chances drew dim for a return against the 49ers.

Harvin twice went to the locker room in the first half of Seattle’s 23-15 over the New Orleans Saints Saturday after blows to the head. After slamming to the turf in the end zone after an incomplete pass late in the second quarter, he left the game for good.

The first blow came in Seattle’s first possession when Saints safety Rafael Bush was assessed a 15-yard personal foul for hitting a defenseless receiver. Several media outlets reported Friday that Bush was fined $21,000 for the shot that temporarily knocked Harvin from the game.

Carroll indicated Harvin is expected to turn to practice next week if Seattle advances to the Super Bowl Feb. 2.

“It’s super-disappointing for Percy first,” Carroll said. “He wants to play. You could see it — he played his tail off when he had the chance. It’s just an unfortunate circumstance.”

Of Wright, injured since Dec. 8 Carroll said, “We’re really excited about that — an incredible recovery.  To have surgery six weeks ago and now he’s playing, so many people did well (for him) to get here. His mentality has been to play the whole time.”

Carroll didn’t say whether Wright would start ahead of Malcolm Smith, who graded out well in subbing for Wright. But having Wright available to play against the 49ers’ big receivers such as Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin, would be an asset for Seattle.

  1. Hurts not having Percy but having Wright back is a plus assuming he is at least near 100%. I read how Wes Welker started wearing a helmet with more padding than the usual NFL helmet because of the concussion he had some weeks ago. Percy should consider that for the Super Bowl.

Yeah…I’m assuming the Hawks are going. And they’ll play the Broncos!

It was 22 years ago that Mary Chapin Carpenter put out a hit album(Come on Come on) that included a song called “The Hard Way”….

Fast forward from 1992 to 2014. This song could be the Seahawks 2013~14 theme song.
Everything we got we got the hard way.
Those Lyrics couldnt be more true this year in all of the ways we found to win from an improbable come from WAAAAAAY behind win in Houston to a Goal line stand to end the game in St Louis. Then there are the pretty wins like the 1st 49 er game and the Saints game.
The Harvin saga and all of the makeshift lines we endured due to injuries/suspensions? The Hard Way just made us tougher.

So Seattle is asked to do it the hard way again this weekend without Percy as we have all season. We have come to expect them to tough it out. They will.
Lets make the guy who got the super bowl champs tattoo on his wrist look like a prophet. Pack your mittens and pullover caps. New York is cold in January.

Go Hawks. Do it “the Hard Way”.
