The civic parade to celebrate the Super Bowl XLVIII champion Seahawks begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday and heads down Fourth Avenue to the Clink’s north entrance, concluding around 1:30 p.m. Many thousands are expected for the first big-time sports championship parade since the Sonics were hailed for their one and only NBA title in 1979.
Fourth Avenue will close at 10:30 a.m. but will reopen as soon as possible. Fans are encouraged to dress warmly and use public transportation because parking will be limited.
And despite the post-game encouragement of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, the Seattle School District will NOT give students a day off. In a news release Monday, the district cheered the Seahawks triumph, but said any absence will be unexcused.
It’s unlikely to produce much punishment.

Understand the decision however I think an early dismissal would be understandable. Many parents remember ’79 and probably skipped school then. But then there’s the question of what kind of precedent would that set? Personally I lean towards early dismissal. Especially for schools that participated in Blue Fridays.
Thing is most parents are just going pull them out of school anyways. There no telling if a championship parade will ever happen again were you can take you and your kids. Next championship parade you never know when it will happen again. and if will be able to take them.
I understand it to try and curb the amount of people, but They could use those buses to move people out of the city and into the parade use the schools as park and ride for it. . Since Going be so many people down there from all around the world and the Pacific northwest.
I read were people are flying in for it.
