According to a report by Mike Axisa of CBSSports.com, the Mariners have their eye on obtaining Dayan Viciedo of the Chicago White Sox. While the White Sox are not actively shopping the 25-year-old outfielder, they are willing to listen to offers. Axisa reported that Seattle and Chicago have discussed trade scenarios.
The Mariners are looking to add some right-handed pop to a batting order currently dominated by lefties. They had an interest in Nelson Cruz, but he signed with the Orioles.
Viciedo batted .265/.304/.426 (94 OPS+) with 14 home runs last season with better numbers against right-handed pitchers (.738 OPS) than lefties (.709). In two major league seasons, Viciedo has a .260 average with 39 home runs in 271 games. Viciedo is currently in a left-field platoon position with Alejandro De Aza.
The White Sox signed Viciedo as an amateur free agent in 2008. He made his major league debut June 20, 2010 and played his first full season in 2012. He is scheduled to make $2.8 million this season.
Viciedo has played 13 career games against the Mariners, batting .208 with three home runs.

Looks like the club is going the cheap route on getting Cano some help. The best option out there is Kendry Morales but evidently the ship has sailed on bringing him in. The M’s stood fast on a 1 year deal and so Morales is more than willing to wait it out for the deal he wants. (Surprise, his agent is Scott Boras.) So they missed out on Morales and Nelson Cruz and are now going after the #6 hittler in the White Sox lineup and will make him the M’s clean up hitter. Not getting a good vibe on this.
