Unsurprisingly, the Super Bowl champs are proving popular in the NFL’s free agent bazaar.
RT Breno Giacomini, who started nine regular-season games and the three playoff games, signed Wednesday evening with the New York Jets, where John Idzik is general manager after several years in the Seahawks front office. Giacomini is the second starter departing the Seattle offense, following WR Golden Tate’s move to Detroit.
The Jets a day earlier lost their starting right tackle the past two seasons, Austin Howard, in free agency to the Oakland Raiders.
Giacomini, 28, was a fifth-round choice in 2008 by Green Bay out of Louisville, but played one game in his first three seasons before the Seahawks acquired him off the Packers’ practice squad in September 2010.
He started at right tackle for most of 2011 and all 18 games in 2012. He missed seven games in 2013 with a sore knee.
Pro Football Focus rated Giacomini 18th among the 40 tackles eligible for free agency.

No comment from the Schneider/Carroll team. I’m confident they anticipated these losses and have contingency plans. Looking forward to seeing those moves.

You always hope the guys can keep it together but not the way in this NFL.
This gives us a peak into NEXT year, when real Hawk talent will be UFA’s.
It’s possible, the downside to Carroll’s “always compete” is that players hedge their bets for another team’s payday instead of dealing with an up and coming (hungrier) and younger talent.
Lost the right tackle on a line that was the weakest link of the team, even when healthy. Breno was a practice squad player before Cable got hold of him, they’ll find another. Coaching does matter. Sucks to see these guys go, but they haven’t lost anyone who I think any of us would deem irreplaceable. I’d rather have this problem than the problem of overpaying veterans to plug gaping holes.
