Seattle’s Clint Dempsey has been named the MLS Player of the Week following his two-goal performance in the Sounders’ 3-2 over FC Dallas last Saturday. Dempsey, who has tallied a club-record five goals in his last two matches, becomes Seattle’s first back-to-back winner of the MLS weekly honor since 2009 and the 13th player in league history to nab consecutive awards.
Dempsey, who has at least one point in four consecutive appearances this season, scored Seattle’s first goal on a long-range free kick in the 22nd minute and notched the game winner in the 85th minute. After attacking the box, Dempsey tapped the ball to Chad Barrett, who returned it to Dempsey for a one-touch finish. He has six goals and one assist overall.
Dempsey is the third player in MLS history to be named Player of the Week unanimously and the second player in Sounders history to win Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks. Fredy Montero won in weeks 1 and 2 of the 2009 season.
The selection is made by journalists from the National Association of Soccer Reporters, a group consisting of members of print, TV, radio and online media.
The Sounders play at Chivas USA at 7:30 p.m. Saturday before returning to CenturyLink Field April 26 to face the Colorado Rapids.

Way too early to talk this but it would be cool to have an MVP on the team when the season is over.
