In the hours before the NFL announced its 2014 schedule Wednesday, the Seahawks, who open against Green Bay at home Sept. 4, ran 19 local draft-eligible players through workouts at the Virgina Mason Athletic Center. Nine players from the University of Washington went through drills, including quarterback Keith Price and running back Bishop Sankey.

“It was another opportunity to compete, and that’s what I do,” Price told seahawks.com. “I didn’t have a combine invite, so I’m doing whatever it takes to catch coaches’ eyes. I’ve got a lot to prove. I’ve got a chip on my shoulder. So I just came out here to compete. I know that coach (Pete) Carroll’s philosophy is competing, and I wouldn’t mind being a part of it. My motto is, all I need is a foot in the door and I’ll take care of the rest.”

Price would seem an unlikely candidate to catch on with the Seahawks, who have three veteran quarterbacks on their roster after trading for Oakland’s Terrelle Pryor, who will compete with Russell Wilson and Tarvaris Jackson — unless the Seahawks convert Pryor to the “slash” position, widely rumored.

While Sankey attended the workouts, he did not take part because his status as one of the top backs available in the draft is already secured.

In addition to Price and Sankey, Wednesday’s drills also included ex-Huskies PK Travis Koons, LB Princeton Fuimaono, SS Sean Parker, DT Sione Potoa’e, WR Kevin Smith, LB Thomas Tutogi and CB Tre Watson.

Two other Pac-12 players were in attendance, California DT Deandre Coleman of Garfield High and DL Scott Crichton of Foss High.

Eastern Washington was represented by CB Ronald Baines, RB Demetrius Bronson, CB T.J. Lee and DT Andru Pulu.

  1. I’d love to see the Hawks pick up Price. I’m wondering if any of these players were recruited by Pete Carroll when he was at USC? He seems to favor those players.
