Former University of Washington quarterback Keith Price, a longshot to make the Seahawks roster when he signed as an undrafted free agent May 10, was released by the club Monday along with DE Kevin Boatwright. Price set numerous records playing under Steve Sarkisian at Washington, including career touchdown passes (75), career completion percentage (64.0) and career passing efficiency (143.2).
The 6-foot-1 Price, who came to the Huskies out of Compton, CA., is free to sign with any other club.
In addition to releasing Price and Boatwright, the Seahawks signed running back Demetrius Bronson and veteran free agent DT Kevin Williams.
Bronson began his career at the University of Washington before transferring to Eastern Washington. He earned honorable mention All-Big Sky in 2012, and was a short-yardage specialist for the Eagles. Bronson finished with 600 career rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, and caught eight career passes for 51 yards. He started 10 of 29 games played.
Williams, whose signing was reported last week, was the ninth overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2003 NFL draft and recorded 10.5 sacks as a rookie. He followed that with 11.5 sacks in 2004 and also had 8.5 in 2008. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2004 and 2006-10, adding All-Pro honors in 2004 and 2006-09.
Williams was also named to the NFL All-Decade team for the 2000s. He started all 171 games played in his career and recorded 463 tackles (331 solo), 60 sacks, five interceptions, 63 passes defensed, two touchdowns, seven forced fumbles and 13 fumble recoveries.
The Seahawks begin a three-day, mandatory mini-camp Tuesday at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. According to multiple reports, running back Marshawn Lynch, either seeking a new contract or on the verge of retirement, is not expected to participate. Lynch has run for 4,624 yards and 41 touchdowns since he joined the Seahawks in 2010.

I was hoping Price would stick with the team thru training camp, though that’s my Husky allegiance showing. If he’s being released this early it’s so he can hook on with another team still. The likelihood of him being picked up for the Practice Squad is slim in that instance but I still hope that happens. I do think Price is an underrated player.

I believe that an extention of one more year and 1.5 million added would suffice.
I am surprised Price was dropped, as given his exposure to the Hawks over the years they knew what they were getting, so why pick him up at all?
If he can’t beat out Daniels for a spot, then he must have really under-performed.
What’s really a bummer in Price’s carer was the UW OC Doug Nussmeier having left after his record breaking sophomore year when his passing numbers were 33 td’s, 11 int’s and a 161 qb rating. A new OC and poor offensive lines contributed to his lesser junior and senior years.
Hopefully he can get on with someone else, as this kid is a fine leader and has the tools to play.
I like what Price brought to the Huskies as a player and a leader (and I’m a Coug fan). Too bad he didn’t stick in Seattle but he’s got lots of time to hook on with another NFL, CFL or even AFL team. He belongs SOMEWHERE.
I never thought he was all that good. In the pantheon of Husky QB’s he falls somewhere in the middle–probably the Time Cowan range. The reason he has all those records is not reflective of his effectiveness at the position. Rather, it is the evolving changes in the rules of the sport. I.E. more games played per season now, than in the past, the “track meet” style of the game that is in use now inflates personal stats.
Very average IMO.
