Aldon Smith, whose mistake in the NFC Championship helped the Seahawks to the decisive touchdown, was ordered Friday to pay for a few other mistakes by a Santa Clara, CA., County judge. The 49ers’ star linebacker was put on probation for three years and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and spend 11 days on a work crew, likely picking up trash along freeways.
But a violation of any of the terms of the probation, which includes no drinking of alcohol nor owning guns or ammo for three years, will put him in jail for 11 days.
Smith in May pleaded no contest to to misdemeanor drunken driving and three felony counts of possessing illegal assault rifles. Superior Court Judge Daniel Nishigaya reduced the weapons charges to misdemeanors, saying he had no criminal record regarding violence, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
The court order allows Smith to complete the work crew obligation on consecutive Mondays starting July 28. Smith could have faced a maximum sentence of four years and four months in jail for for the gun charges if they had remained felonies.
In mid-April, Smith, 24, was arrested on suspicion of making a false bomb threat at Los Angeles International Airport. But prosecutors declined to charge him.
Smith has 42 sacks in 43 regular-season games with San Francisco, but will be remembered in Seattle sports history as the one who jumped offsides on a fourth-down-and-seven play at the 49ers 35-yard line early in the fourth quarter at the Clink.
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson fooled Smith with a double count on the snap, then finished the free play with a touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse that put Seattle ahead, 20-17, for the first time in the game. The Seahawks won one of the great postseason games in NFL history, 23-17, then finished the season with a walkover of the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.

i guess the 4th down off sides was a mistake but other 9ers also made significant contributions to the loss. I would say it is more on Kap than any other.;..
The first play from scrimmage in the title game was pretty amazing demonstration of Aldon’s skills. He tracked down and sacked Wilson well outside of the pocket, how often does that happen? The dude is pretty amazing
All you have to do is study film to make that play. Russ was getting lazy doing the same roll out w out an escape catch to pass off too. Aldon might be a trashy human being…but not a trashy football player. There is your pun there. You can always find ways to make trash into something usefull…I hpke someday Smith will figure that one out.
