Critics of Seattle’s physical tactics that push the limits of NFL rules perhaps are snickering today — the Seahawks were busted for getting too physical with themselves.

For excessive contact during June’s veterans mini-camp, the NFL find the club $300,000 and some lost practice time in 2015 for violating off-season no-contact rules stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement.

First reported by NFL.com, the Seahawks were caught on film for for “excessive levels of on-field contact.” The inquiry was prompted by a fight between offensive and defensive players during drills. Further review of the practices resulted in the punishment.

The Seahawks lost an appeal and must forfeit its first two days of on-field double practices in next year’s mini-camp, and will get only a single 2½-hour practice on the final day. Players will be paid for the cancelled practices.

A similar episode in 2012 drew a punishment of two lost sessions of organized team activities.

  1. I question why the NFL should have any control over how much contact teams have in practice. This is football, not cribbage.

    • Probably in an attempt to prevent a good portion of these young men from turning into incoherent vegetables by the time they reach 50 years of age.
Just another taint on their super bowl.

    • Something got the NFL to request tapes of their practices. I bet it was Harbaugh. Or Mark Few! ;)

      • Chip Kelly? Actually, it was the team’s practice fight, Sherman vs. Bates, that drew the scrutiny.

  2. The club has been ‘find’? The NFL ‘find’ the club?

The SPNW staff needs to go back to school…elementary school.
