The Seahawks Saturday released wide receiver/kick returner Bryan Walters and signed safety Terrance Parks from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The move adds some depth to Seattle’s injury-riddled secondary in advance of Sunday’s 1:25 p.m. game against the Oakland Raiders at CenturyLink Field.

The 24-year-old Parks signed with the Seahawks in February after spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats following a college career at Florida State. The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder could see action Sunday with starter Kam Chancellor a game-time decision with a groin injury and reserve Jeron Johnson out with a concussion.

Parks has never played in an NFL game.

A Kirkland native, Walters signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad in 2012 after playing four games with the San Diego Chargers during his 2011 rookie season. The 26-year-old saw action in six games for the Seahawks this season, serving as the primary punt returner from Week 2 through Week 7.

Walters did not play in last week’s victory at Carolina after a concussion at practice.

The fourth-year player from Cornell averaged 9.1 yards per return on 12 punts and 21.5 yards per return on two kickoffs to go with five receptions for 44 yards.

  1. Too bad Walters draws the short straw again, but what else can be done? The WR corps is down with the trade of whatzizname to the Jets, but they’re hurting more at DB. Pro football is sometimes as much about the numbers game as it is talent. C’est la vie.

  2. I have to feel for Walters. He gave his all for the Hawks and now he’s under the bus. I know, it’s all business. But somehow this just ain’t right.

  3. how dare walters get a concussion. he deserved to be dumped down the laundry chute. football football football!
