As expected, the Seahawks Saturday activated CB Jeremy Lane from the injured reserve / eligible to return list, but the roster move to make space for him was a bit of a surprise: C Stephen Schilling went on injured reserve with a sore knee, which ends his season.
Schilling came on late against the Raiders Sunday to relieve Patrick Lewis, making his first career NFL start in place of Max Unger, who was out with a sore foot. With Unger’s return for Sunday’s home game against the New York Giants, Lewis will be the backup.
Schilling was a star at Bellevue High School and was second-team All Big Ten his final year at Michigan before being drafted by the San Diego Chargers four years ago. He signed as as free agent with the Seahawks, who converted him from guard to center.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Schilling, who made two starts at center, was “banged up” but offered no details.
