The Mariners Thursday claimed 24-year-old LHP Edgar Olmos off waivers from the Miami Marlins. Olmos, who went 3-3 with three saves and a 4.06 ERA in a career-high 51 relief appearances last season split between AA Jacksonville and AAA New Orleans, has five major league appearances to his credit. His addition brings to 36 the number of players on Seattle’s 40-man roster.

Olmos limited opponents to a .248 average last year while walking 30 and striking out 60 on 77.2 innings.  Olmos recently completed his winter league assignment, going 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA (9 ER, 11.0 IP) in nine games with the Salt Rivers Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.

Olmos made his MLB debut with the Marlins June 3, 2013 at Philadelphia, allowing one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Over five appearances with Miami that season, he went 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA (4 ER, 5 IP).

He was selected by the Marlins in the third round of the 2008 first-year player draft out of Birmingham High School in Los Angeles. He owns a 15-37 record with a 4.50 ERA (245 ER, 489.2 IP) in 179 games, including 71 career starts over seven seasons in the minor leagues.
