As a consequence of its 69-67 victory over No. 15 Oklahoma Saturday night at the MGM Showcase in Las Vegas, Washington moved up three spots to a No. 13 ranking Monday in The Associated Press and USA Today Coaches’ polls. This is Washington’s highest national ranking since it was ranked also 13th Nov. 22, 2010.
The Huskies, 10-0 for the first time since 2005-06 (that team opened 11-0), are one of three Pac-12 clubs in the Top 25. Arizona (12-0) is No. 3 in both polls and Utah (8-2) is 14th in both.
Washington defeated two Top 25 foes this year, Oklahoma and San Diego State. This is only the second time under coach Lorenzo Romar that the Huskies have beaten a pair of ranked opponents during the preseason. They also did it in 2004-05, subduing No. 19 Alabama and No. 22 North Carolina State.
The Huskies are 93-34 as a ranked team in the Romar era.
Washington has two non-conference games remaining before the start of Pac-12 play Jan. 2 at California. The Huskies take on Tulane Monday at 8 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena and Stony Brook Dec. 28 at 5 p.m.
